Our Timber FAQ’s

We use plantation wood and sustainably sourced materials for our furniture and decor items. Our main types of wood include Burmese Teak, Mahogany, Mango, Acacia and Suarwood

We do not use timber from natural rain forests. Our commitment to environmental sustainability means we exclusively source non-indigenous timber species from carefully managed plantations in Java. By using plantation wood, we ensure our practices are sustainable and eco-friendly. This approach aids in conserving natural rain forests in Borneo and Sumatra for future generations.

Originally, Dutch colonists recognized the superior qualities of Burmese Teak, Tectona Grandis, for shipbuilding and eventually planted vast plantations throughout Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. Its durability and resistance to harsh environments made it an ideal choice for constructing ships, buildings & dockyards. Due to its naturally high oil content, Burmese Teak wood is highly stable and less prone to warping, cracking or shrinking, ensuring that Burmese Teak furniture maintains its shape and structure over the years. Additionally, the wood has a rich, golden-brown colour and a smooth, even grain. If left outside, it develops a beautiful silver-grey patina over time.  Did you know? Burmese Teak contains natural oils and residues that resist water, dry rot and insect infestation. View our bestselling Burmese Teak furniture

Suarwood is sourced from the South American species, Samanea Saman. Colloquially, it's known as a Rain Tree, Asian Oak, French Tamarind, Saman or Monkey Pod. Suarwood is now grown in Indonesia and is highly sought after for its robustness and cross-grained texture.  Classified as a hardwood, Suarwood is well known for its suitability as live-edge slab tabletops, requiring only basic maintenance. Did you know?  Samanea Saman is one of the world's fastest-growing trees with a growth rate of approx. 75 to 150 cm per year, making it ideal for large, single plank slab tables and bar counters. Mahogany's closed-grain texture enhances its appeal for handmade furniture, prized for its durability, intricate carvability, and stunning beauty. It displays a spectrum of colours from pinkish tones to deep reddish-brown hues with streaks and intensifies in colour as it ages. Renowned for its exceptional durability and resistance to rot, decay, and pests, its natural oils provide inherent protection against moisture. View our bestselling mahogany furniture. Did you know? Mahogany was once reserved for European royalty and aristocracy due to its luxurious appearance and durability, making it a symbol of wealth and prestige. View our Bestselling Mahogany furniture

Mango wood is eco-friendly and sustainable; it is harvested from mature trees no longer bearing mango fruit and replanted, making it renewable. The wood features a unique grain pattern with color variations, ensuring each piece is one-of-a-kind. Lightweight yet strong, Mango wood is durable and less prone to warping. Its workability allows for intricate designs and smooth finishes, making it versatile for various furniture and decor items. Did you know? Mango trees can grow to the point of harvesting in just seven to fifteen years. View our bestselling Mango wood furniture and décor

The Samanea Saman originates from the South American rainforests. During their 500-year colonial rule, Portuguese colonial rulers brought the seeds to Southeast Asia, where the tree was able to spread expansively due to ideal climatic conditions. Due to its massive crown, this tree is very popular as a shade provider in hot, tropical regions and is therefore extensively cultivated. Today, you can find the Samanea Saman in Southeast Asia on the roadsides, in meadows, fields, parks and gardens. Did you know? For several years now, this fast-growing wood has also been grown on plantations for wood processing

Our smaller decorative pieces are crafted from a diverse selection of wood types available in the villages of our small Supplier communities, with Mango and Albizia being the main choice.

Our wooden materials are sourced in India and Indonesia, where the unique climates contribute to the thriving growth of these timbers. The tropical regions of India and Indonesia produce high rainfall ecosystems which in turn results in ideal conditions for the cultivation of high-quality timber. From the monsoon climates of India, and the volcanic slopes of Java to the fertile soils of Sumatra, each region offers its own distinct characteristics, influencing the grain patterns, colours and overall quality of the wood

GRC FAQ’s

GRC, or Glass Reinforced Cement, is a high-strength, durable material made by combining cement and fine glass fibers. This combination results in a versatile material that is lightweight, weather-resistant, and not prone to corrosion

GRC is a durable and lightweight material, making it ideal for statues and smaller decorative items. Its strength ensures that the pieces remain sturdy without being overly heavy. GRC also offers excellent weather resistance, making our items perfect for both indoor and outdoor use.

GRC offers several advantages over traditional concrete. Unlike traditional concrete, which can be heavy and prone to cracking, GRC is much lighter and more flexible due to the inclusion of glass fibers. This allows for greater durability and resistance to impact. Plus, GRC’s superior weather resistance means it can withstand extreme temperatures and harsh elements.

Yes. GRC decorative items are highly suitable for outdoor use due to their excellent weather resistance. They can withstand harsh environmental conditions, including rain, UV exposure, and temperature fluctuations, without cracking or deteriorating. GRC is also non-corrosive and resistant to moisture.

GRC statues are significantly lighter than regular concrete statues. In fact, GRC can be up to 75% lighter than traditional concrete, thanks to its innovative composition of glass fibers and cement. This reduced weight makes GRC statues easier to handle, transport, and install without compromising on strength or durability

GRC statues and ornaments can last for decades—often exceeding 50 years or more. The combination of cement and glass fibers creates a material that is highly resistant to cracking, weathering, and corrosion, which helps it withstand harsh environmental conditions.

GRC items require minimal to no maintenance. For indoor pieces, simply dust or wipe them down with a damp cloth. For outdoor items, a gentle wash with water occasionally will help keep them clean. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials to preserve the finish.
